On Set & Video Shoot Makeup and Hairstyling Behind the Scenes - Music Edition
Hello! Welcome! I’m your 10+ year professional, mobile hair and makeup artist, Ruth! I’ve been working on set and with video shoots since I moved to Los Angeles 11 years ago!! Lately, I’ve had the opportunity to work with some musical talent! Some you might recognize and some who are working their way up to stardom! We’ll chat beauty looks and behind the scenes, so follow me as you take a quick look into this beauty artist’s work-life!
This past month I’ve had the opportunity to work with Chantel Collado, CHEROKEE the Chief, and Nessa Barrett!

Chantel Collado’s team reached out to me through Instagram! They had been looking for a hairstylist for their shoot and had scrolled across my feed. After chatting a few details, the project fit and we booked!! I arrived to DTLA for the shoot. The studio was well lit with natural light and ready for the creativity we would bring that day! Chantel’s mood board consisted of a night scene, where she would be walking through the water to the lyrics of her song “Te Perdi”! Check out some of the final images below:

Let’s move next to artist CHEROKEE the Chief’s “Moon Shadows” music video. Cherokee and her team reached out to me same day! This means, that that same day they were shooting the video, they were looking for team shoes to fill! Unfortunately, CHEROKEE’s booked makeup artist had cancelled on her, but luckily she fell into my reliable hands!! I was available and able to take her within the hour! When CHEROKEE arrived she was sweet and already in wardrobe and hairstyle! We got to glamming and I had her Soft Glam done in no time!! She went on her way feeling fabulous to record this:

And to close us today is Nessa Barrett! I was brought on Nessa Barret’s “Hell is A Teenage Girl” music video assisting my lovely hairstylist friend Rikki Gash. Rikki is an excellent hair stylist and I love assisting her when I can on all her gigs!! We arrived out in Lancaster last month to film Nessa’s music video. It was a chilly June day, suprisingly! The wind in the valley was extreme and blew hard the whole day. (BTS: Poor Nessa was freezing the last half of the day!) The location we filmed on was perfect for the set of the music video. For glam, we were located in the main house where we needed a generator to give us power for Rikki’s blow dryer and hot tools! Rikki started by doing a wig wrap on Nessa, and proceeded to apply and style the wig. The wig’s long blonde hair was beautiful and perfect blowing in the wind! Rikki completed the look with a cute pink bow and Nessa was off to shoot! Here are a few photos:
Thanks for joining me today as we walked through 3 of my most recent on set and video shoots! I love behind the scenes and love being apart of the art!! I hope you learned a little more of the real life of hair and makeup artists and enjoyed reading more about your favorite gals: Chantel Collado, CHEROKEE the Chief, and Nessa Barrett!!
If you need hair and makeup for your next on set and video shoot, please reach out here to get the conversation started!
